Ryan Niesz, a recruiter from Phelps Dodge Corporation, visited the Nevada School of Construction. Phelps Dodge has recently merged with Freeport-McMoran Copper and Gold, Inc., and are currently looking to fill over 100 positions for heavy equipment operators. After touring our offices and classrooms, Niesz was able to go out to look over our training facilities. He was very impressed with what he saw, and would like to utilize NSC and other NAHETS schools as a pipeline for filling available positions within his company.
Niesz was able to visit each class and explain the benefits of working for Phelps Dodge, mostly in mines that are located in southwest New Mexico and southeast Arizona. There are MANY benefits available to employees beginning the first day of employment, a few of which are: medical, 401K, bonus programs, 3 weeks vacation, company housing at a very affordable price, tuition reimbursement, relocation assistance, and others.
After talking with the classes, Niesz was then able to make a visit to the NAHETS offices. While there he was given a tour of the facilities, showing him the Boot Camp display, the filming studio, and meeting many of the employees of NAHETS. We were able to spend quite a bit of time with Chris Cannon explaining Boot Camp and sharing with Niesz some of the plans for the future. Niesz can see that NSC and the other NAHETS schools are looking toward the future by training their students as potential employees for companies in need of heavy equipment operators.
We will be having a representative from Phelps Dodge on both NSC and NAHETS advisory boards, as the Phelps Dodge representative can bring a lot to the table with the knowledge and experience in the field of mining.
